Kris Gordon's Country Album Don't Let Go Tonight
Texas
Panhandle native son Kris Gordon, a Country Music singer now living in
Georgetown, Texas takes the name of
his new album Don’t Let Go Tonight
from the song of the same name a ballad, not so much about breaking up, but
about not giving in so easily and holding onto love.
About
the song “Don’t Let Go Tonight,” Kris Gordon says, “Sometimes
you have to go through that to realize how much that person does mean to you,
and to not let go of how you both feel for each other.”
Kenny Greenberg is strong on lead guitar, with Mike Johnson’s steel guitar
providing the twang and Mark Beckett delivering the backbeat. Mike Brignardello
is on bass guitar and the fiddling by Larry Franklin and Stuart Duncan add
texture. It is the rich, clear and emotive vocals of Kris Gordon that create the
tension in the air, as he becomes the man asking the woman he loves to stay.
The song “When You Close Your Eyes,” asks where you go
and what do you dream of while you are sleeping. It speaks to insecurity in a
relationship and perhaps the foreshadowing of an end to the same relationship.
The third song “Upside Of Down,” and the companion video, which begins
with a cell phone text message that says, “Really?? Really?? I never want to see
you again! Lose my number!!!,” is about moving on with life after a
relationship. It is a slow two-step and guitars drive this tune.
Fans of traditional Country Music will enjoy the melody and the tempo.
It is Mike Brignardello’s bass that sets the mood for
“Angel In A Hurricane,” about the one who loves you and who is always there for
you to calm you when the stresses of life seem overwhelming. This song is worth
listening to for a lot of reasons, one of the best reasons why is Mike Johnson’s
superb playing of the steel guitar.
“Angel In A Hurricane,” is drawn from Kris Gordon’s own life, “At
the time that I wrote this song I felt like I was living in a hurricane.
Things were just not going my way.
It seemed like I was fighting an insurmountable headwind and there was no
end in sight. I met this particular
person and she lifted my spirit up and helped me to see the light at the end of
tunnel once again. I wrote this
song for her,” he says.
Throughout this album, the listener notices the
excellent balance between the instruments, the high quality of the production
and a superb sound mix. A lot of the credit for that goes to producer Dean
Miller (son of Roger Miller), who recorded the songs at three Nashville studios,
Quad Studios, Verge Studios and East Iris (now known as House of Blues Studios).
The album was engineered and mixed by Mills Logan and mastered by Jim DeMain.
A fun song on
Don’t Let Go Tonight is “Flirtin’ With Me,” more of a contemporary Country
tune with lines like, “She’s a hurricane
/ She’s blue sky / She’s the girl next door / but she ain’t shy.”
Apparently, more than a few ladies in the front row have flirted with Kris
Gordon, while he is performing this song.
“(Love) Calling My Name,” is another of the cornerstone songs on this album, and
Gordon says, “When
you are a single bachelor, like me, it’s nice when you do fall for someone.
Just like in this song, everything changes.
You start singing a new tune and love starts calling your name.”
Kris Gordon is a Country Music singer on the rise and one to keep an eye on.
